Why did the Magic pick Dwight Howard over Emeka Okafor? How did they finagle the deal for Jameer Nelson? What other offers were on the table for Tracy McGrady? The answers to these questions will be broadcast this Saturday in a new hour-long documentary about the Magic summer of 2004. (See Team Notes below for a link to more details.)
Other questions hopefully to be answered:
1) The Gooden and Varejao trade for Tony Battie: why, why, why?
2) The perennial question: Grant Hill?
3) The other health question: Pat Garrity?
4) How did they convince notoriously fickle Stevie Franchise to come to Orlando?
5) Who do they expect to be the main go-to guy this season?
6) What does Johnny Davis think of all the turmoil?
Doubtless many of these questions will remain unanswered or at best get only light mention. Still, it will be fun to go behind the curtain and see how the puppetmaster played his hand, to mix a lot of metaphors. This could potentially be a terrific documentary or it could be a simple fluff piece. There is no way to know before watching it.
So cancel your plans for Saturday night, or at least make them start at a more reasonable hour than 6pm, because that's Magic time.
